| White paper, pencils, tobacco, coffee....... Once my starting point has been established the rest is created mostly be elimination like a roomful of junk somewhere in my mind where I pull out objects and shapes to throw onto the paper. Once started the picture begins to draw itself depending on the evolution and juxtaposition of surrounding shapes and forms. Generally not much is preconceived. Each piece has probably seen a few hundred different images all of which at some point have been constructed and deconstructed gradually. I view my deconstruction very much as a progression as it shows me what I don't want, half of the time spent is breaking down the image. I could easily spend an entire night drawing shapes, lines and forms, erasing parts, redrawing and exploring different angles just to find myself destroy it all during the fuzzy battle that is morning. I've been scribbling since i was a child and am totally self taught Every drawing i've ever made is either 31cm x 52 or 60cm x 52 The paper is always the same Strathmore 400/500 Currently i'm using Polychromos colour pencils which i'm liking more and more, up until recently i only ever used Prismacolor's but supply's to Europe have been stopped. (a very sore point indeed) |
